As we are in a time of uncertainty, fear, and anxiety, we are all struggling to cope. I am too; I love my family, but I miss my friends, school, and band. But, one thing God has been working with me with over this time is His ultimate sovereignty--that He is in control of all things. I thought someone else would want to hear this truth as well, so with this post we're starting a series on the Sovereignty of God. Here's the underlying truth:
God is in control of EVERYTHING in existence -- including COVID-19
So, what does sovereignty mean?
In general terms, sovereignty refers to having ultimate, supreme authority. In the context of God, it goes deeper. (This definition is paraphrased from Pastor Troy Skora, the Student and Missions Pastor at my church, Front Street Baptist. Thanks, Pastor Troy for giving me the words here!)
God's sovereignty means that God is control of literally everything--He is the ultimate ruler of everything in existence, and He governs every aspect of life, including our decisions as humans; He works EVERYTHING together to accomplish His divine plan.
Especially in a time like this, this should be of UPMOST ENCOURAGEMENT to us. Why? Because we are not alone in this fight. Sure, we have each other, and that's great. We have Zoom and FaceTime and other ways to keep us close to one another right now. But that has nothing on the fact that the God of the universe is still in control despite how helpless we feel! He is fighting our battles, He is working this out, we just have to trust in His timing.
So, as we get into studying His Sovereignty, these are the passages/verses we'll be digging into! Feel free to start reading! They are really encouraging passages, so I would totally recommend you read them!
- Psalm 135:6
- Proverbs 16:9/Jeremiah 10:23
- Proverbs 21:1
- Romans 9:14-18
- Romans 8:28
- Jeremiah 10:10-16
- The Story of Joseph (Genesis 37, 39-41)/Psalm 105
Thank you guys for reading, I really, really appreciate it! As always, feel free to reach out to me if you have prayer requests, questions, or just want to talk! You can reach me through the Instagram account or commenting on this post.
