The Sovereignty of God | A Confession I Have To Make

Good morning y'all! Wow, she's posting two days in a row? And it's early in the day? Where's Liz? I know, I'm surprised at myself too. I just wanted to tell y'all something, and this is not a post I planned to write.

Last night, I found myself really kinda sad. I've been worried about what this virus might do to my high school years--will I even have marching band? Will I go to school at all during my junior year? Will my senior year even be a senior year?

Then I realized something: I'm a dadgum hypocrite. I'd written to you all not three hours earlier talking about how God is mightier than all things and He knows what's best for us. And what was I doing? Crying, not believing what I had preached three hours earlier.

God revealed something to me this morning during my quiet time, and I thought I should share it with you all. I've been reading through Jeremiah, and I'm currently in chapter 13. At this point--Jeremiah arranged the book in NOT chronological order--he is telling Israel, yet again, that impending doom as a consequence for their sin is coming. This is what he says:

Give glory to the Lord your God

before he brings darkness,

before your feet stumble,

on the mountains at dusk.

You wait for light,

but he brings the darkest gloom

and makes total darkness.

Jeremiah 13:16

At first, I was like: Man, that's dark! That doesn't sound like God at all! We usually don't think of God as bringing darkness, right? That's usually Satan. Satan = Dark, God = Light. Simple biblical math, I thought. But then, God revealed something to me:

He is SOVEREIGN over the light and the dark.

God uses both the light and the dark to bring glory to Him. In Israel's case, He was using the punishment for their sin to bring His chosen people back into a loving relationship with Him. God is not of darkness, but He certainly is over darkness and uses it for His plan and glory.

And here's another cool thing God showed me, and I think this should bring us peace. Satan is finagling his annoying self into our minds right now. He's given me a plethora of fear, anxiety, and the whole nine yards about this virus and life during and after it. But guess what? Since God is sovereign over the light and the dark, Satan will ultimately bow to God. Yes, the dark is Satan's little dominion. It's what he uses to make us think our sin has power over us. BUT GUESS WHAT? GOD HAS DOMINION OVER SATAN'S DOMINION! In reality, Satan is powerless against the might of the King.

So, I know myself, and I will start worrying again sometime today about something in my life that might get jacked up because of COVID-19. But God, my God, my Savior, has control over the light AND the darkness of this world. Satan and fear have no place.

With that, I leave you to your days, my friends. I just thought I would share this with you, because I know this virus is stressing everyone out differently. But remember, He's bigger than all of this (I'm preaching to myself right now). Fear has no place.

Love you all, feel free to reach out if you need anything! Thanks for reading!!! :)

Hi Elizabeth! I loved reading your post and while I agree in theory I also know that it's OK to feel sad about how life has changed. You have had a lot of life changes to deal with and even if you know you'll be alright in the end you have had to deal with some major disappointments. Life will return to normal so you have hope. Miss you so much! You are truly a beautiful person!

ABOUT LIGHT & SALT

The Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 calls us as believers to make disciples of all nations. But being a Christ-following teenager in this day and age isn't easy, as being known as the goody-two-shoes isn't typically the social status that everyone goes for. So we all need some encouragement, right? Teen to teen? That's what I hope this blog can be to you--something to give you godly insight and scripture to take into your day.
